Fuck You, Medicaid.

So here is how I spent my day yesterday: On the phone.
I was supposed to have physical therapy today and on Thursday, and on Wednesday I was supposed to have the big Godalmighty tilt table test that is such a big Godalmighty fucking deal that it took three fucking weeks to schedule - a test that is supposed to determine why I keep passing out for non-seizure-related reasons; but no, all that has been cancelled, because my caseworker at the goddamned Medicaid office is a big stupid lummox.
There are two kinds of Medicaid here in the Gret Stet of Illinoise. You have the regular kind, which is for your regular poor folks, and then you have Medicaid Select (which is also called Blind Medicaid), for your really fucked-up folks and your blind folks. I fit into this latter category and therefore have been receiving Medicaid Select.
This addlepated bitch goes and decides to change my Medicaid back to regular Medicaid just because oh, say, the voices in her head told her to, or maybe because it was raining, or quite possibly because she called Miss Cleo and received that particular advice.
This has fucked up my world more than I can possibly express.
My neurologist, the local hospital, the physical therapist, and the pain clinic all do not accept regular Medicaid. Therefore iI was told I must travel to the hospital that is in the East Ghetto, the Extreme Ghetto, and go find all new doctors there.
Hell fucking no.
I called the flea-brained idiot’s supervisor and found out that WHOOPSIE! this was a mistake! and that it needed to be fixed. Unfortunately it could not be fixed until October first, so I was fuck-diddly-fucked until then, so sorry, these things happen, ha ha!
“Well, can’t you at least give me an authorization for my tests?”
“Noooo, I don’t think I can.”
“But this was your mistake.”
“I know, but the system won’t accept the change until October 1.”
“Well perhaps someone can override the system, because I have a lot of appointments scheduled, and I cannot get rides to the East Ghetto for new appointments.”
“Um, I’ll see what I can do, but I doubt it.”
Needless to say, I am fucking livid.
This braindead assmunch is supposed to call me back this morning, and if she doesn’t call me by eleven I am going to be on the phone with my congressman’s assistant before you can say “You’re fired.” I have absolutely had it with this bullshit.
Social Security and Medicaid have been fucking me up the rear sideways every step of the way for six years, and I refuse to be their bitch any longer.

I feel yah. My medicaid coverage seems to have a computer glitch that randomly switches my prescription coverage to mail order. So when I go to the pharmacy to pick up my prescriptions I cannot get them. Then I have to come home, call medicaid, get it fixed, wait two days for it to take effect, go get prescriptions. Then I get to repeat the process again next month.

You know, I used to hope for that, simply because there are so many uninsured people, but you know, I could go both ways.
On one hand, I don’t pay for prescriptions, which would cost me roughly 2500 per month, and God Knows what I’d pay in doctor’s appts and for tests.
On the other hand, the red tape is unreal, and you have got to be FREAKING POOR to get Medicaid. Although I now get it due to disability for some strange reason even though I should be getting Medicare instead.
I really don’t know. I don’t think it’s a viable option simply because health care costs are so damned high in this country.

As the above posters have said, there’s a couple reasons why socialized healthcare would not work in the U.S. right now, and that’s 1) because of an insane level of underfunding an pathetic management in the subsidized care that already exists and 2) because when a hip replacement in Canada costs the system around $8,000 US, and in the U.S. it costs the insurers between $20,000 and $50,000, for the same surgery, there’s a problem, and 3) since the gap between the rich and the poor is so huge, the poor cannot afford preventative medicine, which is cheap, and as a result usually only receive catastrophic, reactive medicine, such as coronary bypass, intensive care, ambulance rides, and reparative surgery, which, as you can guess, is very, very expensive. Sure, socialized health care isn’t perfect, but at least your essential services are covered (and anybody who doesn’t pay taxes because they’re below the poverty line automatically gets free health-care. Anyone with a higher income has to cost-sharetheir premiums based on their income.)

Yep, that’s how it works here in Australia, and it’s great.
Everyone is looked after and overall medical bills are much much lower.
When I lived in the states I was told by my govt. that if I needed a hospital stay or the like, that I would pay the first tiny segment of the bill, and they would pay the remaining 70 jillion dollar gap. Just kiddin about the gap.

I think you should hold your own protest in front of your congressman’s office and/or the city hall with a big ass sign and everyone you can muster and MAKE A LOT OF NOISE. Then tell them they have 48 hours to fix their computer system before you contact the local papers, television and radio station. Mention the woman that helped you by first and last name. CC your social security attorney, even if you don’t send him a copy. Make sure when you’re interviewed you’re using your walker and have all your pills on a table next to you. That will get some action done!
