Cats in a Car.

Our mission for today, if we choose to accept it, is to put two adults, one child, and two cats into one Chevy Cavalier and successfully drive across town to the vet without anyone jumping out the window, tying themself in a knot, or breaking the sound barrier.
Ollie, who is having the seizures, screams so loud in the car that she sounds like a human baby who is being boiled alive, and if we roll the windows down even slightly other passengers get on the cell phones and start calling the authorities.
Elmo, who is yanking out huge chunks of hair, clawing all the fur off of her neck, and does not stop scratching twenty-four hours per day to the point in which it is making me itch; thinks the car is SO COOL and must look out EVERY WINDOW, ALL AT ONCE, REALLY FAST.
The J-Man, thrilled with the novelty of Cats in a Car (which is better than Snakes on a Plane), goes into hyperactive mode and DOES NOT SHUT UP.
I plan on taking some preventative Tylenol.

that is always fun. I used to have to take my moms cats to the vet and she had 6. None of them ever enjoyed the car though. How cute it must be to have a kittie that acts like a dog in a car.

My cat makes that awful “Hur-MUUUHR” howl in the car, which ensures we all feel as tortured as she does.
And, I just now created a new invention, in my head!
How about, as an idea, cutting the feet off some pantyhose, and pulling the stockingfeet over the cat’s head?
The cats would still be able to breathe, because bankrobbers do that safely all the time,
but I reckon they would probably give up on trying to howl.

I feel your pain. Seven years ago I drove from Southern California to Seattle, Washington in a brand-new Ford Explorer with eight cats. They were all loose in the car for the entire drive. The smartest of the bunch, a Siamese, learned not only how to work the control buttons for the windows, but also figured out that if she stood on the button at the driver’s side controls that locked all the other buttons, she could unlock said buttons and go back to buzzing down the windows as often as she liked. Add in one seriously PMSing driver and it was an interesting drive.

Oh my gosh - I know what you mean. My boy cat screams like you’re trying to kill him and my girl cat joins in because she wants to comfort him. A visit to the vet is so freaking traumatic that everyone gets a couple of V@lium and a double vodka martini when we get home.

Two of my cats hide under the car seat. One other of them curls up into a ball and pretends she’s asleep. The last one stands on his hind legs and stares out the window.
The oldest cat, Sprite, not only itches and claws the fur off her neck, but she licks all the fur off her stomach and back legs. The vet told me that she’s depressed and it’s an obsessive compulsive thing. He gave some meds and said if it didn’t work…she would have to go on Kitty Valium.
