Gross, Disgusting Tuesday.

I hope your respective Labor Day weekends were fun and great. I unfortunately missed both parties I was supposed to attend and, after doing some cooking, spent most of my Labor Day weekend in bed. I did, however, cook over one hundred meatballs before passing out, so that is something. Meatball accomplishments are nothing to be sneezed at.
I’m glad the cookie recipe I posted went over well for some of you. I made it myself and I know it was much appreciated in this house.
I would post my awesome meatball recipe that goes over like mad, but it basically involves me mixing a whole fuck of a lot of chopped garlic in some cheap meat and throwing a bunch of other shit in without measuring it and basically just promoting ground beef anarchy. Just don’t you skimp on the garlic, that’s my advice. Also lots of oregano, but not so much basil. I am not so much a fan of basil in red meat. Also, lots of crushed red peppers are good. Mmmmm.
I am too much a fan of my own cooking, and that is my problem. More specifically, that is my ass’s problem.
Today I thought I would mix it up a bit and discuss gross, disgusting habits. Everyone has one, right? I’m not talking about quirks like stupid things we do with food, or semi-gross things like picking a wedgie, or weird obsessive things like skin picking or what not. I’m talking seriously gross things, like nose picking or eating hair.
Since I’m about to ask you what dirty little secrets you possess, I’ll pony up with mine: I sometimes peel my feet.
This probably requires explanation. My feet, to the untrained observer, look great. My toes are always painted. They look well-manicured and well-taken care of. However, I always go barefoot, frequently even outside, so I have the calluses of a ninety-year-old fire walker. They are horrid. So, sometimes, alone on the couch, I peel my calluses.
Then I throw the skin into the ashtray.
I know, totally fucking disgusting, and totally TMI. Obviously I don’t do this often or I wouldn’t have any feet left.
And now I want to know yours. What do you do? What do you do when you’re alone that could be construed as gross? Do you pick your nose? Do you pick your toes? Do you… read this website? (horrors)

We had a similar question around the bonfire while camping this weekend: “What do you do when no one’s looking?” My answer was “Naked Time!” although that doesn’t really fit your “gross” requirement, unless you think being naked is gross and I don’t. Other answers were ‘pick my nose’, ‘crap with the bathroom door open’, ‘pick pimples’ and so on.

I keep my toenails unnaturally short, I hack at my cuticles with scissors, I most definitely pick feet & scabs & zits & my nose. I only sleep naked if there’s a naked body next to me and I always go to the bathroom with the door open. I am a freakin heathen!!!

Of course sleeping naked is a must, and I will admit to almost everything already listed although I have been to fat to bite my toenails since 6th grade. Not that I ever remember doing it. However, sometimes, if there are boogers, I pluck them out with tweezers while looking in the magnifying mirror. Can’t help it.

Luvabeans hates this, but I, instead of simply rubbing sleep out of my eyes, will hook a finger in the corner and slowly pull out what she deemed “eye-mucus.” The reason for doing this is because if you hook a particularly ropy string, it will slowly peel and slide off the surface of your eyeball, with a sensation that is somewhere between nauseating and fascinating.

I will admit to about 99% of the list as well and I only bring this one up because of the bikini-line comment. I know it’s not gross but it is a sick pleasure kind of thing. I pick my split ends. And upon PURE boredom I will hunt for them. I think the most I’ve seen a hair split was something like 21 times. I pulled it out and held it as if it were pure gold.

Yeah, I’ll own up to the nose-picking. I have a hard enough time breathing through my nose as it is; if something’s up there blocking airflow, it’s gotta come out. Blowing into a kleenex usually doesn’t work thanks to the glory of nasal hair, which holds onto the little boogers like fresh offspring. I at least try to be discrete about it.
I’m thankful no one here has owned up to the world’s most disgusting habit (even more disgusting than voting Republican), which is hocking up big chunks of lung butter and then… PTOI! onto the sidewalk or street. That should be a capital offense, my friends. I’d rather step in dog doo than in someone’s mucus lake that they’ve lurched onto the ground.

as for me, i have a leg up on some folks because i have psoriasis, which makes my legs perpetually itchy and peely. if there isn’t a fruitful patch to peel, i can scratch a patch and watch a pile of skin-snow form at my feet. i’m hot.
