Greetings. I Am RoboJen.
December 15th, 2007 by trancejen
Well, I made it through the surgery with flying colors and it was really no big deal; but that didn’t stop me from crying like a big fat baby throughout the whole procedure.
I was awake. Black coffee awake. Talking to my doctor (who judiciouly vacillated between ignoring me and telling them to give me more Versed, a drug I am convinced does NOT work) awake.
I didn’t feel much, except during the beginning when they stuck my poor chest with a series of painful shots, but Lord was I awake and Lord was I scared. Thankfully there was a drape so I could see nothing but the faces of the nurses who kept peeking over to soothingly tell me that it was OK and not to cry (embarrassing), but I knew I was being carved and I was freaking out.
Afterwards I was fine, I ate a ham sandwich almost directly after being wheeled back to my room (apparently the non-working Versed induces hunger), I watched TV for the two-hour recovery period; and I did not go to sleep until I arrived home, wrapped some Christmas presents, and chilled out on the couch for a while.
I can feel my little device. It sticks out a bit and is the shape of a Bic lighter. It’s a very weird feeling, feeling something in my chest that is not me. I want to keep touching it. I’m supposed to keep feeling around it to make sure the surrounding tissue is soft and is not getting any weird sort of blood clots, and so far everything is fine even though I woke up to find that I had slept on the damn thing.
The remote control used to record “events” (passing out incidents) looks like a mini garage door opener. It has a cord so that I can wear it around my neck (stylish) or a belt clip so that I can wear it on my pants (better).
All of this is strange. I feel like one of my kid’s toys.
I haven’t seen the incision yet because it’s still covered by bandages, but I have to change everything today. Perhaps I’ll take an icky gross picture and post it.
Perhaps I’ll spare the internet the Discovery Health Channel trip.
Anyway, I’m fine. Aside from my unnecessary fear and bawling, the whole thing was really minor; and now I’m totally modern and electronic and stuff. Woo.
Tonight is my family’s Christmas party, where we will all play games and eat too much and drink too much and I will try like hell to remember that I’m not supposed to raise my left arm.
Happy Saturday.
By the by, a few people have asked via e-mail whether I have a wish list. I do, and it’s here: ![]()
You can see that I’m a very exciting person because my wishlist includes balls of yarn.
However, I do have a long list of charities where your money could be better spent this Christmas. I am compiling that list and will have it up permanently on Monday. Please check back.
Thank you.

Wow, Versed is like the one drug that *does* work for me. Poor thing- I’m glad it’s over for you. Keep your arm down, now.

Whew. You know, I’ve heard of being wired over the holidays but you take the cake, dear one. Keeping my fingers crossed this monitor provides some answers. Very glad your ’spa’ vacation was short and you’re home safe. Mwah! ~LA
